===== Problem =====

If you want to check the event log after a system crash to find out exactly what caused the error, Windows may display the following error message:

===== Solution =====

==== Step 1 ====

We [[windows:run_services|open the service administration]] and check whether the service has been started. Open in the DOS prompt:

Or by clicking on //Start// and enter in the search box:

Now search for the Windows Event Log service. This should be started and set to automatic. If this is not the case, we change it accordingly.

==== Step 2 ====

If the above step is unsuccessful, the log data is probably corrupted. We must therefore delete the log data. :!: ALL events will be lost!

In the event overview, we click on the right on the button //Delete logs//. All events are now logged again.
